The Location

Our host for WCW'2002 was The National Center for Atmospheric Research. We met in the Main Seminar Room of the Mesa Laboratory. The street address is 1850 Table Mesa Drive, Boulder, CO 80305. The telephone number is 303-497-1000.

There is plenty of free parking at NCAR.

The Environment

The weather in August is typically sunny and warm-to-hot. The temperature typically ranges between 13 and 27 °C (55 and 80 °F). Rain is common, but humidity is typically low.

Boulder's elevantion is approximately 1600 meters (5400 feet). Although unlikely, you should be aware that altitude sickness is a possibility. If you plan to go hiking, you may want to arrive a day or two early so you can adjust to the altitude.

Things to See and Do

Rocky Mountain National Park is nearby. Here you can see some very nice scenery and drive along Trail Ridge Road, which crosses the continental divide and reaches an elevation of 12,000 ft, or 3700 meters.

Historic Chautauqua Park, located adjacent to the city of Boulder, is a great place for a short hike or a meal at the dining hall. They also offer lodging in quaint cabins with a minimum stay of four nights.

If you enjoy bicycling, rollerblading, or walking, be sure to visit the Boulder Creek Path.

Celstial Seasonings Teas are made here. You can take a tour of their factory, just north of Boulder.

The Coors Brewery is about 20 miles south of Boulder. You can take a tour.

If you enjoy watching people, The Hill and the Pearl Street Mall are great places to hang out and observe the annual migration of students back to Boulder.
